Pastors Desk July 31st 2016

Most Beloved Parishioners,

Remember that our new Mass and Faith Formation class schedule will commence on the first full weekend of August! See elsewhere in this bulletin for this pertinent and vital new schedule so that you can plan accordingly.

Replacement of our Youth Minister and Coordinator of the Parish School of Religion: As you all know, both Christina Davis (our Youth Minister) and Linda Koerner (our DRE) have left St. Pius to take jobs at other Catholic institutions. I want to assure you that we are very actively seeking other ministers to take up their educational positions at our parish, and I sincerely hope to have each position filled before the start of our Faith Formation year. PSR (elementary education) will begin on Sunday, September 11th, and Wednesday, September 14th along with EDGE. Our Confirmation Classes begin on September 11th. Life Teen will begin on Sunday, September 18th. See the parish bulletin and our mobile app, as well as our CCTVs for details and reminders. Be assured that this is my top priority – to find highly qualified and dedicated, passionate catechists to lead all of our young people into deeper love of Jesus and of his holy Church. So get all of your kids registered as soon as possible – all of them – not just those who will be entering sacramental preparation programs.

On that note, please let me stress that every child should be enrolled in the appropriate PSR or YM grade level that corresponds to their school grade level. We have precious little opportunity to help you in your primary duty to educate you children in the Faith. No child should ever, ever not be enrolled in Faith Formation classes. It is imperative that you fulfill the promises you made at each of your children’s baptisms: that you will insure above all else to pass on the Faith to your children. If it takes a bit of a sacrifice to pay for the cost of classes, then make it. It is a sacred duty incumbent on every parent. Your children deserve the best that you can give them so that they will have the wherewithal to face the many challenges to their morals, their integrity and their ability to face life’s challenges in the way that will please God and insure their salvation. Nothing is more important for them and nothing is more pressing on your budget or your time than the salvation of your children’s souls. So please, do whatever it takes to make sure that each and every one of your children, pre-K through 12th grade, are enrolled in the parish Faith Formation program.

On another and very interesting note, the new abbot of the Monastery of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit, Dom Augustine Myslinski, OCSO will be solemnly blessed to assume his new office on August 15, 2016 at a 10:00 am Mass celebrated by Archbishop Gregory. Since we at SPX have long had a very special relationship with the Monks, you are invited to attend this Mass at the Abbey. The date was chosen because it coincides with the patronal feast of the Cistercian Order, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Mother.   I hope that you will join me and Fr. Garcia at this important and rare liturgy.

On yet another note, I hope that you have found the new statue of the Holy Family to be a welcome addition to our parish campus. I have donated it to you all to mark my first anniversary as your (7th) pastor here at SPX. Our families are the bedrock of the Church. I offer it to y’all as a place to pray for your own families, and for the holiness of the Family of Nazareth to be that of your own families. Joseph is the patron saint of husbands and fathers. Our Lady is the patroness of wives and mothers. And, of course, Jesus is our brother and Lord. I give it to you in memory of my parents, Charlie and Peggy Goolsby. On a rather personal note, I also see in it my own family: my daddy and momma, and their only child, Greg. I will bless the new statue sometime in the near future.

Three last things:

  • Anointing of the Sick will follow every Mass this weekend.
  • Remember that we offer low-gluten hosts for anyone who needs them. See one of your Clergy for details and to arrange for such hosts to be available to you at any of our Masses.
  • Our new parish app has been quite a success. I encourage everyone to download it so that you can have a fun, fast and thorough source of information about our parish on your mobile phone. No need to go to a stationary computer; you can always be in the know about SPX wherever you are and when you are always on the go.

Grace and peace to each and all of you! I am your faithful servant and shepherd, and your brother on the Journey of life,

Father Greg
