We are all beginning to settle into the swing of things as the new school year will begin this week. The kids are, at least to some degree, probably not quite ready for summer to end. I suspect that all of the parents are of a different mind!
We will be extending blessings to all of our students, teachers, bus drivers and other school workers at every Mass this weekend, and will be praying for a year of grace, wisdom, openness to new ideas and people for all of our students. We will also be praying for a secure and utterly safe year for everyone.
Thinking ahead to our own Parish School of Religion, note that our Opening Mass of the New PSR year will be on Wednesday, September 9th at 6:30 pm. Monday PSR classes commence on September 14th. If you haven’t done so yet, be sure to contact our parish Religious Education Office to register for classes as soon as you are able.
We are still in need of a number of catechists and co-catechists for both the Monday and Wednesday evening sessions. Catechists and co-catechists receive a 50% discount on the annual RE fees! Training for catechists, grades Pre-K through 5, will be Thursday, August 26th at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
PSR Orientation for students and their parents will be on Monday, Aug 31st and Wednesday, September 2nd at 6:00 pm in the Parish Hall. You will be able to meet with the catechists at that time, pick up calendars and finish-up any outstanding paperwork. Parents will also be introduced to the curriculum that their kids will be following this year. Orientation for our high school kids (“Life Teen”) will be on Sunday, August 30th at 6:30 pm (PH). Orientation for the middle school program, grades 6-8, (“Edge”) will be on September 2nd at 7:30 pm (PH).
The First Friday of August is on the 7th. Daily Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am (NB: there is NO 8:30 am Mass on First Fridays), with Adoration of the Eucharist following until the exceptional 8:30 am Mass on First Saturday.
Be sure to frequently check the Parish website for all of the events happening here at SPX.
Lastly, congratulations to our Parish Administrative Assistant, Barbara Roberts, on the occasion of the birth of her newest grandchild, Allison Roberts!
Your brother on the Journey,
