Basic Requirements Sacrament Preparation

A candidate for the Sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation or Confirmation should be a registered member of St. Pius X Catholic Parish.

If the candidate is not a member, a letter of permission must be presented to the pastor of St. Pius X from the pastor of the parish to which the candidate belongs.

Preparation for a sacrament is at least a two year process.  Immediate sacramental preparation, usually the 2nd and 10th grades respectively must be completed at the parish of registration.  Please contact a staff member in the Office of Religious Education if you have special circumstances which need addressed.

Preparation for the celebration of a Sacrament is a comprehensive approach that involves the entire family. Special sessions are intended for and involve the parents. In addition to attendance at the preparation sessions and consistent Mass attendance: service hours; meetings; home study and retreats may be required.

Please read over introductory materials carefully and mark your calendar of all necessary dates.
If you anticipate that other activities, events or programs in the coming year will compete with the time necessary for sacramental preparation, you should consider postponing the preparation until such a time that allows full engagement in the preparation process.

We provide all families with materials needed to complete the preparation for any Sacrament. If materials are lost and you request a replacement, payment covering the actual cost of materials plus shipping and handling will be expected.

Please note that Church Law requires proof on paper that a candidate has been baptized for participation for the sacraments following Baptism. Please present your child's original baptismal certificate when you register them for classes.

  • If your child was baptized at SPX, simply notify of us of the date and we will confirm it in our parish records.

  • If your child was not baptized at SPX nor celebrated any other Sacraments here, please provide the original certificate when requested.

  • If your child was not baptized at SPX but did celebrate one or more Sacraments at St. Pius X, you would have already provided us with the baptism certificate for that child. If you did so, please tell us which Sacrament and the year for us to verify.
