February 19, 2017 – Archbishop’s Annual Appeal

Beloved Fellow Parishioners,

This weekend is our Commitment Weekend to the 2017 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. We will be making our essential financial commitments to Archbishop Gregory at every Mass. Our parish goal is $76,900.

It is a very reachable goal, especially since it is a bit lower than our 2016 goal, which we met and even exceeded by $16,000! I am so proud of all of you!! We will be able to use those 2016 monies to make immediate repairs to our roof problems (and to the ceiling tiles in the Day Chapel, the Narthex, the bathrooms, and hallways adjacent thereto). We will also be able to make real progress in continuing to establish our satellite Catholic Mission at the Lakeview Estates community center in north Rockdale County in which more than 5,000 predominately Catholic Latino families reside. Both projects are important to us: keeping our main campus roof structurally integral, and extending our outreach to thousands of Latino Catholics in our county.

This weekend, we will be showing a video of our chief shepherd, Archbishop Wilton Gregory, at every Mass, in the two primary languages of the Parish. Please be aware than almost 50% of our Parishioners are of Latino origin. Both language groups are essential parts of our SPX family. We want and expect to reach ALL our Parishioners in this 2017 AAA Campaign.

While you may not be aware of it, our Parish depends heavily on the Archdiocese of Atlanta for essential services to our Faith Formation programs (pre-K to Adult), support of our Seminarians and deacon-information candidates, our finance department and stewardship efforts, our musical and liturgical ministries, support of our older and retired Priests as well as our currently-serving Priests, our Hispanic Ministry department, our RCIA efforts and so many other “behind-the-scenes” efforts you might not be aware of. We are in contact with the Archdiocese at least a dozen times each week for their support and guidance. Your support of the 2017 AAA makes their assistance possible to us. We need them and they need our support.

Please be generous in committing to the 2017 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. It is a give-and-take arrangement of the utmost importance. Please give what you were able to give last year, and try to add another $200 to $500 to that donation for this year. I will be doing that myself, and thus I feel comfortable in asking you to join me in the same way. We need to support our Archdiocese, and we especially need the “overage-abovegoal” monies for much needed ministries and other expenses here at SPX. Remember that every dollar above our goal of $76,900 returns to us without any Cathedra Tax (the amount we pay to the Archdiocese to support it, and which is based on our total offertory in 2014). That is a 100% of our paid-over-goal pledges which helps to support SPX for our many financial needs. I will be speaking to you about how we might allocate those extra, tax-free monies in the months to come.

Your brother on the Journey,
Fr. Greg

Mark your calendars now! March 20-23 will be our parish Lenten Mission. Visiting priest,
Fr. Wade Meneze, with the Father’s of Mercy will be here. Fr. Wade is currently the Assistant General and has served as Director of Vocations and Director of Seminarians for the Fathers of Mercy. Fr. Wade has also served as the Chaplain-in-Residence at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament of Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Alabama. While at the Shrine, Fr. Wade was a daily Mass celebrant, homilist and confessor; he also gave spiritual conferences on specialized points of Catholic Christian doctrine to the many pilgrims who visit the Shrine. Both the Monastery and Shrine are affiliated with EWTN, the Eternal Word Television Network.
